Service Manager (Currently Hiring)
Service Manager
The Service Manager is responsible for leading Scariano Construction’s small-project service and warranty work from initial customer contact through project completion. This position is designed to provide responsive, efficient service for projects that do not require Scariano’s standard pre-construction and project management process.
The Service Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for service clients, independently assessing project needs, developing estimates, coordinating resources, and completing carpentry and repair work when appropriate. This is a hands-on position requiring strong residential construction knowledge, sound judgment, organization, and excellent client communication.
The Service Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations and will work closely with Scariano’s field staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and Controller. When service workload allows, the Service Manager will continue to support Scariano’s active construction projects as a production carpenter.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned service requests from initial customer contact through completion and closeout
- Communicate directly with clients to understand project needs, expectations, schedule, and next steps
- Visit project sites to evaluate existing conditions, diagnose problems, and determine appropriate scope of work
- Determine whether a request should be handled as a service call, fixed-price service project, warranty item
- Develop estimates and proposals for service projects within established company guidelines
- Schedule and coordinate service work, subcontractors, suppliers, and required materials
- Personally perform carpentry, repair, adjustment, installation, punch-list, and miscellaneous service work
- Coordinate with the Director of Operations when additional Scariano carpenter support is required
- Lead Scariano warranty investigations and repairs while escalating significant or questionable warranty obligations to the Director of Operations
- Track labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and other job costs throughout each service project
- Maintain organized records of active service requests, scheduled work, outstanding estimates, completed work, and warranty items
- Provide complete and accurate billing information to the Controller promptly following completion
- Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout the service process
- Build and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
- Model workplace safety and maintain clean, professional jobsites
- Support normal Scariano production carpentry when service workload allows
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, profitability, and customer experience of Scariano’s service operations
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, building systems, and trade standards
- Well-rounded carpentry skills with the ability to independently complete a variety of residential repairs and small projects
- Ability to diagnose construction-related problems and develop practical solutions
- Ability to accurately develop scopes of work and estimate labor and material requirements
- Ability to manage multiple service requests and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Effective client communication and a professional customer-service mindset
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, field staff, and office staff
- Sound judgment regarding when to independently resolve an issue and when to escalate it
- Ability to maintain accurate job documentation and provide clear information for invoicing
- Commitment to Scariano Construction’s standards for quality, craftsmanship, safety, and client service
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in residential carpentry and construction
- Experience performing residential remodel, repair, punch-list, and warranty work
- Experience estimating small construction projects
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers
- Familiarity with Scariano Construction’s construction standards, processes, and client expectations
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite, Bluebeam Revu, & ability to learn other softwares as required
- Ability to use an iPad for documenting, managing, and invoicing service work
Typical Project Scope
The Service Manager will generally be responsible for projects requiring less than one month of field production and that do not require outside consultants such as architects, engineers, or other design professionals. Project complexity will also be considered. Projects requiring substantial design, permitting, pre-construction, outside consultant involvement, or extended project management may be transferred into Scariano’s standard project delivery process.
Reporting Structure
Reports To: Director of Operations
The Service Manager will have primary ownership of the service schedule and assigned service work. Additional Scariano carpenter resources will be coordinated through the Director of Operations.
Job Type
Full-Time, hourly. ($34 – $38/hr)
This position will initially operate as a hybrid Service Manager / Production Carpenter role. Service and warranty responsibilities will receive priority, with remaining capacity assigned to active Scariano construction projects by the Director of Operations. The role is expected to transition toward full-time service management and field service work as demand increases.
