Flathead Lake Retreat was built as a family getaway on land the owners had camped on for years, creating a home that feels closely tied to the slope, views, and natural character of the lakeshore.

Working with MMW Architects, the home was designed as a simple wedge emerging from a narrow site that slopes steeply toward the water. The roofline follows the grade of the land, while reclaimed metal roof panels, vertical grain fir trim, and locally sourced low-maintenance flooring give the home a durable, grounded feel.

Designed to host up to 18 people, the retreat still feels warm and intimate. Floor-to-ceiling doors open the living space toward the lake, while an indoor/outdoor masonry fireplace anchors the home to the landscape. Playful finishes, shop-built custom furniture, and two sleeping porches nod to the family’s original camping experience on the property.
