A long-vacant downtown building found new life as Missoula Bicycle Works, transforming the former Sprouse-Reitz into a practical, welcoming home for bike sales, service, and community.
Working with Jeff Crouch of Kibo Group Architecture, the renovation focused on making the space both functional and inviting. The open floor plan gave the shop room for retail displays and future growth, while the repair area was designed with the light and visibility needed for daily service work.
The project also brought care to the details that make the space feel specific to a bike shop, from the mix of colors and materials to front desk hardware inspired by bicycle components. Completed in late 2004 and recognized in 2005 with a Commercial Renovation and Rehabilitation Award, the project helped preserve a historic downtown building while giving it a new purpose.
