Montana Moss & Timber is a custom residential rebuild in Missoula, created for clients with a deep appreciation for thoughtful design and materials that grow richer with time. Scariano Construction worked alongside Dubbe Moulder Architects and Mika Dubbe Design to replace the previous residence with a home tailored to the way its owners want to live now and for years to come.
The exterior brings together raked cedar shiplap siding from Montana Timber Products, Montana Moss stone installed by Gusaas Stone & Trowel and antique reclaimed timbers from Superior Hardwoods. The stone continues inside at the fireplace, while hand-hewn columns, beams and knee braces give the new construction an immediate sense of history. A standing-seam metal roof, patinated copper gutters, Sierra Pacific windows and a custom deck railing extend the same level of consideration across the exterior.
The new footprint was carefully integrated into an established landscape. Mature pines, willows and other existing trees were retained wherever possible, including one near the foundation that required specialized root work and treatment. Molly Sutton’s landscape design builds upon what remained with deer-resistant plantings, seasonal color and spaces that will continue to evolve around the home.
Inside, custom cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling library shelving by Dovetail Furniture Co., integrated stained glass, two distinct primary suites and a customized Stiltz Duo Alta elevator balance personal expression with long-term function. Beneath the visible finishes, entirely new electrical, plumbing, HVAC and ventilation systems complete a residence rebuilt with equal attention to craftsmanship, performance and longevity.
