Built in 1902 for the Missoula Gazette, the building at 119 W Main was transformed into a modern home for the Headwaters Foundation and its community-focused work.
Working with MMW Architects, the project reconfigured the façade to create a single, accessible public entry while preserving the building’s historic detailing and glazing rhythm. Inside, loft-style spaces were adapted for meetings, events, and nonprofit partners, with high-performance systems supporting daily use.
The first floor includes three public conference rooms, including two that combine into a larger venue through folding glass partitions. A fully equipped commercial kitchen supports events and partner needs, while two private patios along the south alley create space for fresh air and midday breaks.
Nature-inspired art walls add warmth and texture throughout the interior, connecting the space to the local landscape and supporting the foundation’s focus on community wellness across Western Montana. Photos by Cody Brown.
