Completed in 1998 with Hoffman Morgan & Associates, The Johnston Building rebuilt a commercial space in a busy Missoula neighborhood with the goal of feeling like it had always belonged there.

The project included a full demolition and rebuild, with design choices that helped the new building fit naturally into its surroundings. Tumbled brick, historic mouldings, and salvaged flooring from Bigfork gave the space an older, more established feel, while east-facing windows opened the building to views across the Missoula Valley.

The building also required some creative coordination with the neighboring property, including a water-service arrangement that made the east-side windows possible. The finished project went on to receive statewide historic recognition and is now home to Meadowsweet Herbs, Ewam Buddhist Institute, and Green Path Herb School.
