In Missoula’s University District, this 1911 Craftsman home was restored with a balance of historic preservation, custom finish work, and modern comfort.
Designed with MMW Architects, the renovation updated a home that had been largely untouched since the early 1960s. Behind the original façade, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems brought the house into the modern era, while in-floor radiant heat improved comfort through Montana winters.
The interior work focused on preserving the home’s character through quarter-sawn white oak millwork, custom cabinetry, built-ins, matched trimwork, Italian marble, custom tile, and period lighting.
Upstairs, a sunlit landing leads to a library and reading nook framed by geometric stained glass windows. Outside, a hand-built pergola extends the living space into a private garden courtyard with brick and stone pavers.
