A 1922 bungalow in Missoula’s University District was expanded by reclaiming unused attic space and turning it into a family-ready second floor.
Completed in 2008 with MMW Architects, the remodel added dormers across the upper level to create an additional bedroom, bathroom, reading area, and sewing room. The work was designed to feel seamless from the street, with custom-milled siding and interior moulding matched to the home’s existing details.
The project also upgraded the home’s heating system, reducing energy costs even as the house grew in size. To limit disruption while the owners lived in the home, our team built a temporary exterior stair for construction access.
The remodel earned Fine Homebuilding’s 2011 HOUSES Remodel of the Year, received a Missoula Historic Preservation Award for Residential New Construction & Compatible Addition, and was later featured on Houzz as a Kitchen of the Week. You can see the full kitchen remodel and gallery here.
